Apollo Agriculture is a technology company created to help smallholder farmers maximize their profits. We deliver a proven product - bundled seed, fertilizer, insurance and advice, on credit - to smallholders through a digital, vertically integrated, and cost-effective approach. We use high-resolution satellite imagery and machine learning to develop credit profiles for smallholder farmers, and automated processes for each customer touchpoint - from acquisition and enrollment, to extension services, monitoring, and repayment. By reducing the expense and operational complexity of smallholder lending, we are making it possible to serve even the most remote of Africa’s 50M smallholder farmers in a financially sustainable way.

In Benin Republic, 40% of all crops are lost before market, due to inefficiency in the post-harvest and cold chain services. Consumers experience a 400% increase in the price of tomatoes in off-season. At GleTech, we have developed three solutions: AHI, KeKe, our cold chain solutions (network of solar powered warehouses and on-demand refrigerated vehicles), and OHA (training, financing, and information). Our go-to market solution is AHI, the marketplace. AHI will increase transactions; connect farmers with bigger pool of retailers and wholesalers; and enable communication between users. We have connected with users, and are seeking funding to launch our platform.

Dukas, “Mom and pop stores” play a critical role in Kenya’s economy. They supply roughly 70 percent of consumer goods and are often run by women or families. These shop owners lack information on prices, travel long distances to wholesalers, and incur high transportation costs. We are building an online system where shopkeepers can view prices and make orders. We then aggregate orders from multiple shopkeepers and rely on third party transporters to deliver goods utilizing economies of scale. Shop keepers now know prices, get goods at their doorsteps, and save on transportation costs.

Sun GLOW provides practical online and offline training and classes for solar company personnel, vocational students and university students. These classes and the curriculum are custom designed for the Rwandan context. Many companies win solar contracts without the correct expertise; this results in improper, inefficient design and faulty construction. Sun GLOW provides the right training, understanding of design, as well as knowledge about climate financing the companies/students can access in Rwanda and internationally to launch their products/systems/ideas. We ensure capacity building in one of the fastest growing sectors in East Africa, renewable energy.

There is an urgent clinical need for continuous blood pressure (BP) monitoring for better diagnosis and control of hypertension, a major cause of mortality in the USA. Current BP devices rely on an arm cuff that stops blood flow to measure BP, which makes continuous monitoring impossible. With support from the NIH, we have developed the Blood Pressure Imager (BPI), a novel cuff-less technology for non-invasive, direct estimation and continuous monitoring of BP. In clinical studies, the BPI prototype meets FDA standards for BP estimation. Our vision is to commercialize the BPI to improve clinical outcomes and decrease healthcare costs.

We are solving the US opioid epidemic by engineering a safe medicine for chronic and acute pain. Medicinal marijuana is already a safer alternative, but has psychoactive and memory-impairing effects. Our approach eliminates these side effects while maintaining pain relief by targeting a non-traditional allosteric site on the receptor and promoting biased downstream signaling. This approach mimics the body's naturally occurring cannabinoid receptor modulators. The science is sound, but big pharma is reluctant because of historical stigma, making this a great startup opportunity.

EyeCount is the only way to use the phone in your pocket to perform cheap and easy and rapid cell counting and analysis for a tiny fraction of the price of existing alternatives. EyeCount is a patented visual systems based automated cytometer for iPhone. Using a microscope lens adapter to perform multifocal plane analysis on our specially designed disposable counting chamber take all the work, frustration and inaccuracy out of cell counting, for a mere $1 per sample. It even sets up your experiments. EyeCount employs machine learning and image enhancement to continuously improve and offer more and more applications.

UCHU Biosensors designs wireless intra-oral sensors that allow users to take control of their health. We enable users to track key metrics within their oral environment like acidity, allergens, toxins, and nutritional macromolecules. We are currently designing our first product, a pH sensor, with the goal of improving diagnostics and preventative dental care.

There is currently no reversible, long-acting, reliable birth control available for men. VASERA seeks to fill this hole in the market by providing men with a temporary, long-lasting, non-hormonal contraceptive option. Our technology is a silk-based hydrogel that is injected into a male’s vas deferens in a quick, non-invasive, outpatient procedure. The gel blocks sperm flow in the vas deferens, temporarily mimicking the effects of a vasectomy and providing the user with effective contraception for one year. VASERA offers an alternative to hormonal birth control, condoms, and vasectomies for couples in committed relationships.

BarBud moves bar and restaurant transactions completely to the user’s mobile device. Users are able to place their order with our mobile app, pay and tip via credit card, and claim their drink with a push notification! No more lines. No more waiting. The BarBud system increases venue margins by limiting the credit card processing fees as we aggregating them across our network. BarBud also yields an increase in tips by implementing unique reminders and suggesting rates to our users. Most importantly, BarBud provides a direct marketing opportunity for venues to utilize targeted push notifications to further own their customer base.

Our algorithm is packaged into an app which connects you with music enthusiasts to share inputs and collaborate with producers. Without extensive training, modern production tools are too complicated to use and previous solutions for this problem have come at the expense of creativity. Cherrystems is a musical community that empowers anyone to easily make, share, and listen to music with nothing more than their phone and a little imagination.

Energeia will enable an affordable clean energy transition which will retrofit India’s inefficient transmission system and diesel generator powered infrastructure into a reliable smart microgrid powered by renewable energy and natural gas. The company will upgrade the existing diesel generators into natural gas hybrids which are controlled and managed by an industrial IoT platform. This platform will integrate intermittent sources of renewable energy, map consumption to highlight energy efficiency opportunities and allow for a smooth integration into emission trading systems in the future.

Over the last 20 years, the scientific community has scrutinized its efficacy through rigorous clinical trials and has ultimately revealed positive results, lending credence to ginger’s use as a stomach soother and digestive aid. Ginger Time will be the leading, national brand of "ginger shot"; an organic, convenient, potent, and delicious 2.5oz serving of ginger juice, B vitamins, and citrus. In addition to providing temporary relief from upset stomachs, we will donate profits to fund medical research on the more chronic stomach ailments from which people suffer.

R’ Robot translates reality intuitively and wirelessly. An Oculus Rift headset and hand controllers allows a user to see through a robot’s eyes and control its motions with their own head and hands. Low-latency wireless transmission between user and robot opens possibilities towards working in dangerous or otherwise inaccessible situations. While a specialist disarms an explosive device from a safe facility, a doctor can examine and adjust the prosthesis on an amputee from another state, and a technician can repair parts for the International Space Station from the comfort of Earth.

ZwitterCo’s nanofiltration membranes improve produced water recycling in the oil and gas industry. Produced water recycling for surface discharge or beneficial reuse necessitates purification using a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. RO systems, however, will foul and degrade from dissolved organic molecules in wastewater; insufficient organics removal can prohibit RO entirely. ZwitterCo’s flagship membranes show unprecedented separation of soluble organics from wastewater without fouling and can undercut the price of status quo technologies. By providing affordable organics pre-treatment for RO systems, we enable Oil and Gas companies to recycle produced water, simplifying their fluid management logistics and improving their environmental footprint.
