ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT CURRICULUM

Award-winning curriculum designed to prepare engineering and technical leaders.

Tufts Gordon Institute's engineering management curriculum was awarded the 2007 National Academy of Engineering Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education. The prize recognizes the Institute's "development of a multidisciplinary graduate program for engineering professionals who have the potential and desire to be engineering leaders."

Tufts Gordon Institute's M.S. in Engineering Management curriculum consists of a defined sequence of classroom sessions and real-world projects. All students take the same six core courses over the two years and additionally must complete a team practicum and individual leadership project. The degree consists of 10 credits - six credits of coursework and four credits of project work. (Note: Tufts uses a 1-credit per course system.)

The six engineering management courses are each broken into a series of integrated modules. During any given semester, students take modules from several courses - allowing them to gain exposure to important topics and build upon their knowledge as they move through the program. Moreover, the real-world focus of our engineering management curriculum and project activities allows you to gain relevant experience in leading teams and immediately apply what you learn to your job. Scheduling of the modules is part of our full-service program approach – our curriculum is preset and standardized so you don't have to guess what comes next.

Read an in-depth description about the first semester experience and the module, New Product Development and Marketing. For additional descriptions of each of the engineering management modules, visit the Courses page.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERSHIP PROJECT

In lieu of a Master's Degree thesis, the engineering management program culminates with students completing an individual leadership project. The individual leadership project provides students the opportunity to conduct a major project - typically within their workplace - that demonstrates the leadership, management and communications skills gained through Tufts Gordon Institute's MSEM program.
