Tufts 7th Annual $100K Business Plan Competition: 2011 Winners
First Place: Roof for Two
Presented by Tufts seniors Andrew Altman, David Chen,
Maxime Pinto, Karan Randhawa and junior Justin Ferranti.
Roof for Two’s goal is to develop a shield combining a
windshield and a roof to provide protection for motorcyclists
in Southeast Asia specifically during the rainy season.
Second Place: RxCap
Presented by Nathan Scott, 2008 engineering alum and Steve Xu.
RxCap aims to address the issue of health literacy and prescription
drug labels by implanting a device within pill contains that can
deliver automated voice messages to patients.
Third Place: Rentcycle
Presented by Tufts engineering alum Kevin Halter and Sean
Zinsmeister. Team members also included Tim Hyer, Ludo Goarin
and Mike Spence. Rentcycle is a cloud technology platform for
the rental industry that makes it easier for consumers to book
rentals from local businesses.
Social Entrepreneurship Competition:
First Place: Sanergy
Team members include Fletcher student Gaurav Tiwari, Lindsay
Stradley, David Auerbach and Ani Vallabhaneni. The team has
developed a low-cost water-free toilet made of local materials
to franchise out to local entrepreneurs in rural Kenya. The
waste is then collected and converted into electricity and
Second Place: Saathi
Team members include Tufts sophomore Nithyaa Venkataramani,
Joyce Fong, Amrita Saigal, Katherine Smyth, and Zachary Rose.
Saathi has developed a process to manufacture sanitary pads made
out of local banana tree fiber waste to then distribute and sell
to the rural population of India via local agencies.
Third Place: Educate Lanka
The team includes Fletcher students Manjula Dissanayake and
Sadruddin Salman as well as Shezan Zarook, Isuru Hettiarachchi,
Chara Gunawardhana, Dilshan Godaliyadda, and Madhujith Hapuarachchi.
Education Lanka aims to sponsor underprivileged children in Sri
Lanka to provide them with an education.
