Glenn Bell is CEO of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH), a 500-person structural engineering company, with offices throughout the US and signature projects around the globe. Under Glenn’s nineteen-year leadership, SGH has experienced robust growth and is frequently cited for its innovation, industry leadership, and culture of being a great place to work.
Glenn is a recognized thought leader on future directions of engineering education to develop the next generation of engineers. He believes that to succeed in a rapidly changing world, engineers must be global practitioners, collaborative leaders, creator/inventors, integrators, masters of uncertainty, and experts in technical fundamentals. Glenn has taught engineering at Tufts and MIT, and is a frequent guest lecturer and sought-after keynote speaker. He has served on several advisory committees for university education programs and industry boards of directors.
Glenn is the 2014 recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers Edmund Friedman Professional Award, and was recently admitted as a Fellow of the British Institution of Structural Engineers under its Eminent Professionals Program.
Glenn has a BS in Civil Engineering from Tufts and an MS in Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics from the University of California at Berkeley. He enjoys road cycling and competitive sailing.
