PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
A Pioneering Approach
Each year Tufts University will enroll approximately 30 company-sponsored
technical professionals in the Master of Science in Engineering Management
degree programme in India. This group of students will form a "cohort" that
remains together through the two-year program.
The Master of Science in Engineering Management programme in India enables
busy technical professionals to continue to work and contribute to their
organisations while earning their postgraduate degree from an esteemed U.S.
university. This hybrid programme delivers a rigorous and dynamic
education that is unique in form and content; it combines brief residencies
in Boston and Pune with live, interactive class sessions delivered through
cutting-edge internet technology.
Residencies
The four mandatory residencies provide the intensive classroom experience
and personal contact that form the foundation for all subsequent
interaction. During the residencies at Tufts University, the students
develop relationships with their professors and exchange experiences and
expertise with students in the U.S. programme. During the faculty
residencies in India, Tufts professors travel to Pune and hold centrally
located, face-to-face class sessions. Each residency is approximately ten
days in duration.
Residency 1: Students at Tufts University (August, Semester 1)
Residency 2: Tufts Professors in Pune (December, Semester 2)
Residency 3: Students at Tufts University (August, Semester 3)
Residency 4: Tufts Professors in Pune (December, Semester 4)
WebEx Class Sessions
Class sessions via the internet, held two evenings per week, are powered by
Cisco's WebEx technology which provides an engaging, high-touch learning
experience. This technology enables Tufts professors to connect with their
students in India as if they were sitting in a classroom on Tufts' campus in
the U.S. Professors are able to see who is attending and give them the
attention and guidance they need. They can call on students who "raise their
hands" and help them face-to-face using audio and multipoint video. WebEx
also enables professors to facilitate teamwork with virtual breakout
sessions. Students are issued a laptop computer equipped with the WebEx
application, a web cam and a VOIP headset. They can participate in the WebEx
class sessions from virtually anywhere there is access to broadband. Classes
are also recorded so students who miss a live class session can view it
later at their convenience. To learn more about WebEx technology:
