MSEM PROGRAM: FACULTY & STAFF
Michael Kaufman
Dr. Michael Kaufman has written and lectured extensively in higher education for
more than twenty years. His interests are focused on the study of the humanities
in contemporary society. This interest has led to his involvement in a variety
of continuing and executive education programs for a broad range of working
professionals, including public utility managers, criminal justice
professionals, health and welfare professionals, family counselors, and
scientists and engineers. Dr. Kaufman employs classic works of literature to
explore the stresses confronting contemporary professionals, to illuminate those
qualities of decisive and imaginative leadership these individuals strive for,
and to facilitate their own reflective thoughts on the values and conflicts
professionals, executives and managers encounter in their positions of social
responsibility.
Dr. Kaufman has served as the Academic Director of Brandeis' executive program,
"Humanities and the Professions." While at Brandeis, he also served as the Dean
of the Heller Graduate School of Social Welfare and Adjunct Professor of
English. He has been an adjunct faculty member of The Gordon Institute since The
Institute's first class was enrolled in 1986. Prior to settling in the Boston
area, he taught for twelve years at Cornell University and the State University
of New York. He has presented many papers and written scholarly articles and
book reviews on a variety of literary texts and authors. Two articles he
authored were selected as among the best in the field in reprinted in special
editions. Dr. Kaufman earned his Ph.D. in English and American Language from the
University of Michigan.
