PROGRAM INFORMATION: BIOTECH OPTION
Engineering Management with a Specialization in
Biotechnology: The Gordon Institute and The Bioengineering Center at Tufts offer a joint
program leading to a M.S. degree in Engineering Management with a Specialization
in Biotechnology. The program is especially suited for those scientists and
engineers who would like to advance their management careers in the
biotechnology industry. Students with a background in either the life sciences
or in engineering can enter the program and take intensive courses to bring
students up to speed in areas not previously studied.
Applicants apply directly to the Gordon Institute and follow the same admissions
procedures as for the M.S. program in Engineering Management.
Curriculum
M.S. in Engineering Management with a Specialization in Biotechnology:
Engineering Management Curriculum
Six Courses – TGI Core Curriculum
Biotechnology Curriculum
Three Courses- determined by the student’s background.
If the student has a strong engineering background but little biotechnology
background, one course from each of the following three groupings is required:
- Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology,
Immunology, Advanced Topics in Biochemistry, or Biomolecular Modeling
- Chemical Engineering - Biochemical Processing Projects Lab or
Recombinant DNA Techniques
- Biochemical Engineering, Biochemical Separations, or Cell and
Microbial Culture
If the student has a strong biotechnology background but little
chemical engineering background, the following courses are required:
One of the following:
- Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Processing Projects lab or
- Recombinant DNA Techniques
The two following:
- Biochemical Separations and
- Cell and Microbial Culture
Real-World Project
An intensive, real world, biotechnology based project that is mentored and
monitored by The Tufts Bioengineering Center.
