Where were you in your career and what drove your decision to go back to school?
I want to be an entrepreneur. In my previous job, I had a unique opportunity to develop a mobile application for an angel investor. I had a thorough knowledge of the technology and great ideas to build the app but I found it extremely difficult to bring together a team to start the project. Though the project failed to take off, the process was a huge learning curve for me. My biggest take away from this experience is the need to nurture my internal entrepreneurship, which was driving force for me to go back to choose a management degree. Also, I was going through a transition in my personal life leading to relocation. I thought this was the best time to go back to school.
Why did you choose to pursue a M.S. in Engineering Management at Tufts?
There was a point in my career, where I had to choose between technology and business. I was inclined to choose technology because of my previous education, work experience and lack of business acumen. However, I always yearned for a right mix of technology and business in my career. I chose the Tufts MSEM so I can build a unique career path that achieves this mix by enhancing my leadership and business skills. The curriculum at the Gordon Institute was the best fit for my needs. Being an international student, the flexibility of the program has helped me to transition smoothly to the new environment, and the faculty has been of great support and motivation.
What module impacted you?
The project in the New Product Development module integrated marketing, financial accounting and other aspects of a start-up business. It also provided us a platform to execute the leadership and management skills gained from other courses. Working on this project was a holistic experience.
