Where were you in your career and what drove your decision to go back to school?
After undergrad, I dove into the world of education and eventually took on the challenge of managing computer systems for a school district in Boston. Personal growth and development have always been important to me and, 3 years into it, I knew it was time for another big step. Tufts’ MSEM program was perfect for this.
Why did you choose to pursue a M.S. in Engineering Management at Tufts?
I found the combination of innovation, management, leadership, and business strategy studies baked into the MSEM curriculum uniquely compelling. At the time when I applied, I was considering taking the traditional route and applying to full-time MBA programs. I love my job, so being able to keep it was a huge selling point.
How do you balance the demands of work/family/school?
Working full-time while attending grad school has truly taught me the value of a minute. Of course, planning ahead and setting a routine have helped me to stay on top of things. My classmates help me the most, though. We all have deadlines. We all work. Some of us don’t live in Massachusetts and still make it in on the weekends to meet and work on group assignments or stay late after class just to check in. We notice each other’s improvements and genuinely root for one another. This sense of community keeps things positive which can make anything seem manageable.
