Where were you in your career and what drove your decision to go back to school?
Having come from a technical background and starting to experience more of the business side in my current position, I wanted to learn the fundamentals and principles of business and management to complement and enhance my professional experience. I have always been interested in an engineering management position and, with 6 years of work experience, I thought it was the right time to go back to school.
Why did you choose to pursue a M.S. in Engineering Management at Tufts?
I wanted a part-time (in class) program so I could still work full-time. Most of the students in the class are also working full-time so they can also relate to your busy schedule. I like that the same 40 students are together for two years and we will build a strong network of really smart people from varying backgrounds. I also liked that the classes are very different from my undergrad engineering courses, yet are tailored for the someone who want to stays in the technical industry. I can learn something in class and relate it to my real world job the next day.
What is your favorite part of the Tufts MSEM experience so far?
It would have to be developing a new product concept with my team. We learned and experienced each step involved in developing a new product, from product conception to marketing to building a five year financial plan. It was a lot of work but we had fun doing it… and felt extremely accomplished after!
