Where were you in your career and what drove your decision to go back to school?
I am currently working in a marketing function within an engineering environment without an engineering background and I feel it is critical for me to gain leadership skills designed for an engineering environment. My choice to return to school now is based on my desire to continue to excel and grow, and I believe that the skills and tools I can gain from pursuing graduate training will allow me to explore opportunities which otherwise would not be available to me. An advanced degree will position me to better help my organization prepare for the upswings and downturns of a global economy. These skills will prepare me to move forward in my career in an industry that will continue to grow and open new opportunities.

How do you balance the demands of work/family/school?
My work has been very supportive of my participation in this program for which I am extremely grateful. I have been able to depend on my teammates at work when school demands are high and my teammates in school when work demands are high. My family has also been very supportive of my participation in this program and I was very honored when my daughter told me how proud she was of me in going back to school and what a great example she feels I am setting for her and her brother. It is without a doubt a balancing act and sometimes sacrifices have to be made to accommodate conflicting needs. The professors are also extremely supportive and flexible when work demands may delay the completion of a school project which is helpful. But so far the payoff has been worth the sacrifices.

Has there been a professor or module that has impacted you and why?
I really enjoyed my classes with Sam Liggero and Jerry Brightman. They are both very knowledgeable, engaging and have great insight. They made me feel welcomed in their classrooms and were available via phone, meetings, and email if my team or I had any questions on projects we were working on. They provided very helpful feedback on my work/projects which I very much appreciate!
