Jonathan Antonizio, MSEM '17

Senior Upstream Process Engineer

Undergraduate University: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Degree and Major: B.S. in Chemical Engineering
Work Experience before Tufts: Downstream Process Engineer, Abbott Laboratories

Where were you in your career and what drove your decision to go back to school?

“I’m currently a team lead in the upstream process engineering group at Shire and responsible for leading a small team of engineers by prioritizing and executing projects in support of the upstream manufacturing organization. My decision to go back to school was to help put me in a better educational position to take on a more prominent leadership role at Shire that could impact the larger organization and not just within my current team. By enhancing my skill set and getting a broader perspective of the industry that I work in, I hope to take my career to the next level.”

Has there been a professor or module that has impacted you and why?

“Frank Apeseche’s “Financial and Managerial Accounting” was an incredibly helpful and impactful module right at the start of the MSEM program. Not having a finance program, Frank’s structured, fast paced but ultimately straightforward approach to teaching the ins and outs of analyzing financial statements and corporate finance concepts was a challenging but great introduction to the Tufts program. Considering how much of the module you use in the second semester and how it helps to better understand your own company’s financial standing, Frank’s class will have a huge long term benefit over the course of my career.”
