Learn by doing in a powerful, practical curriculum

Time to run with your ideas.

Each semester, you’ll work on a fast-paced, immersive team venture called an Innovation Sprint, where you'll identify key problems, prototype solutions, and synthesize business and financial models that scale. The real magic happens outside the classroom: Engaging with customers and testing solutions to real-world problems.

With each of your three Innovation Sprints, you’ll go through the entire innovation cycle from ideation to rapid prototyping.

Get hands-on by getting your MSIM.

You don’t need a lecture on the basics. That's why the MSIM program supplements big projects with small, interactive courses. It’s the active, collaborative, and passionate environment you want. These courses are interactive, in-depth, and taught exclusively by Tufts professors with decades of experience running innovative companies and social ventures.

Earn 18 credits of Core Courses: In the Fall semester, you will work with a team to develop a meaningful new product or service idea and develop a full venture proposal. And in the next semester you will do it again, diving deeper into the innovation process and build on what you’ve learned so far by continuing to develop your venture from your first Innovation Sprint or take on a fresh challenge. In the Summer you will choose from a variety of hands-on industry experiences to build your resume & apply your learned skills. The Sprint gives you the skills to step into a role at either a startup or a big company because you have a firm understanding of venture creation, from start to finish.

Complete at least 12 credits of elective courses: This requirement can be completed through Tufts Gordon Institute courses as well as courses offered across Tufts University that tap into and build upon students’ interests. All courses must be graduate level, meaning they carry a 100 or 200 level course number. Electives can be taken alongside your core courses only in either the Spring or Summer semester of the MSIM program. While elective options are highly flexible, each Spring and Summer semester you will need approval from your MSIM academic advisor.

TGI offers a great portfolio of courses that allows you the flexibility to explore topic areas that are of interest to you! Below are some examples of courses you can take. We encourage you to view the full portfolio of EM/ENT/TGI courses available here!

After one year of working, I knew I needed more business skills to create value at the intersection of innovation and technology. The Sprint aspect of this program stood out to me because I had the option of taking something from conceptualization all the way to commercialization.
