Become a leader in the workforce of tomorrow.

The world needs leaders who can influence the future of technology-driven businesses while managing impactful teams with self-awareness, equity, and confidence. Become that trailblazer with Tufts Gordon Institute’s Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM).

Offered both on-campus and online, the MSEM will provide you with the business, strategic, and leadership skills you need to advance your career right now, or kickstart the one you’ve always dreamed of.

Engineers at the root are problem-solvers. This program helped me to apply those problem-solving skills for business issues, not only technical issues. The ability to speak, as a technical person, with confidence on the business side is valuable and unique.

Flexible & Convenient Program Options

The Online MSEM program was designed to allow you to balance your education, career, and budget as you engage in a collaborative virtual learning environment for a total of 32 credits over the course of 2+ years.

One of the benefits of our customizable program is the freedom to adapt your course load, taking between 1-4 short, 7-week asynchronous courses per semester.

Courses are custom designed to be engaging and interactive, featuring curated content like short videos, virtual office hours, and small group discussions that build a sense of community and your professional connections. Discover your passions through elective courses offered across Tufts University, and even create your own hybrid experience by choosing electives either online or on-campus.

While many students complete the Online MSEM program in 2 years, some choose to extend the experience into subsequent years as a way to spread out the course load and tuition payments, giving them the opportunity to take advantage of additional tuition reimbursement funds from their employer.

We're excited to announce all-new immersive, in-person experiences open to both Online and On-Campus MSEM students - launching in Spring 2022!

Designed to fit into your work and travel schedules, these optional 3-day weekend immersives can be leveraged to earn graduate credit and experience all that Boston and the Tufts University campus has to offer. Open to both students in the local area and those who would like to travel to Massachusetts, you can explore different topics to align with your schedule and interests. Benefits include:

  • Building skills through a hands-on interactive approach to real-world problem-solving
  • Networking with both Online & On-Campus MSEM students during social and collaborative activities in and out of the classroom
  • Earning credit towards your elective requirements

Details about the dates, topics, and weekend itineraries will be announced in the coming months.

Before I joined the program, my only worry was that the distance might be tricky, but everyone is very engaging. The fact that you can spread it out over two to five years is actually extremely useful because you might find that your workload is a certain way and you need to cut down on a little bit for a semester. You have a lot of flexibility to do that.

Graduate Outcomes

Graduates of our MS in Engineering Management program have seen success leveraging their degree into accelerated career advancement. In a study of the Classes of 2014-2019, we found that over half of MSEM students are promoted before they even graduate, and that success only continues to grow after graduation.

Not only have I been able to transition from engineering over to the business side in product management, I've also gotten recognized & promoted to a managerial position. I really feel strongly that the personal success is indicative of the hard work I put into the MSEM program.

Prefer to ease into a master's degree program?

If you're not quite ready to enroll in a master's program, we recommend you consider our other programs, like our six-month Data Analytics for Managers MasterTrack Certificate or individual courses via Courses at Tufts.

Tufts University's Courses at Tufts program offers students the ability to gain new skills & knowledge right when they want it. Our short 7-week core courses from the Online MSEM program are available without enrolling in the full degree program. If you do decide to later apply to the master's program, you are eligible to transfer up to two Gordon Institute courses to fulfill the requirements for the degree.

Similarly, we have collaborated with Coursera to launch a MasterTrack Certificate program focused on Data Analytics for Managers. This online program, featuring six hours of study per week over the course of six months, will provide you with the knowledge and practical leadership skills you need to make intuitive, data-driven business decisions, and spark innovative ideas that can make a difference in the world. And, if you do apply to the Online MSEM program, you can leverage your certificate for graduate course credit.
