Cut-throat competition is forcing firms to eliminate non-value added work and output inconsistency. While the concept of Lean addresses the former problem by removing process waste, the Six Sigma methodology solves the latter problem by minimizing process variation. This comprehensive course on all aspects of Lean and Six Sigma, gives you hands-on experience with essential quality improvement tools and techniques.
Students who successfully execute a Lean Six Sigma Project for an organization with documented evidence of process improvement results will also be eligible to receive a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Tufts Gordon Institute.
OPTION TO EARN SIX-SIGMA BLACK BELT CERTIFICATION
Lecturer: Kishore Kumar Pochampally, PhD, PMP®, Six Sigma Black Belt
Prerequisite: an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a college-level course in statistics.
Note: Application, registration and payment for the summer course is handled by Tufts Summer Session. View additional information and registration information on their website.
With the knowledge you obtain in this course, you will pursue a Lean Six Sigma project at an organization. You will prepare a detailed plan for the project, which outlines various elements including: voice of the customer, project charter, statistical process control charts, process capability ratios, process map, design and analysis of experiments, risk response matrix, and recommendations for process improvement.
By the end of the course, if you are also able to successfully execute the plan, with documented evidence of process improvement results (for example, a signed letter from the project sponsor at the organization), you will be qualified for the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from the Tufts Gordon Institute. Your course grade must be at least a B+ for your process improvement results to be considered for the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification. For additional information regarding Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, please contact Tufts Gordon Institute.
Through the Lean Six Sigma course you will understand the tools and techniques used in the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) methodology of Six Sigma. You’ll know how to design experiments and perform statistical testing to optimize processes. Lastly, you’ll know how to identify risks on a Six Sigma project and how to develop a risk mitigation strategy.
As a student in Lean Six Sigma, you will learn how to:
