On-Campus MS in Engineering Management Accepted Student Resources
Welcome to the On-Campus MS in Engineering Management Program!
We look forward to seeing you in August at new student orientation!
We’ve put together some information to help get you started and prepared for the program.
First, please review the School of Engineering Admitted Student Information page. This page has a lot of useful information about resources at Tufts, including academic resources, accessibility services, and financial aid.
Second, please review the On-Campus MSEM New Student Checklist, and take the necessary steps to set up your email, complete your enrollment process (submit a final sealed transcript, remove account holds in SIS, pay your bill, etc.). You must set up your Tufts email prior to completing many of the tasks, so it's recommended that you start with that item.
You will be receiving additional details as to how to prepare for your fall classes via your Tufts email shortly before classes start in August. This includes pre-work that is assigned prior to the first night of each class.
Below, you will find some additional information about the On-Campus MSEM program. If you have any questions in the meantime, we are here to help! You can email Rebekah Plotkin, Associate Director of Administration, or give her a call at 617-627-6512 to discuss any details of the program or administration.
All incoming students must submit an original official/final transcript prior to matriculation. This transcript must be sealed and sent directly to the Tufts University. Please see your acceptance package for complete information and requirements for sending your transcript. Electronic transcripts are accepted but MUST be emailed from the issuing University directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Orientation for the MSEM program will be held on August 18, 2020 on Tufts University's main campus in the early evening. Orientation will provide you the opportunity to meet fellow students, faculty, and staff, as well as learn more about Tufts resources and what to expect the first week of class. Orientation is required for all incoming On-Campus MSEM students. Later this summer, you will receive additional information about orientation as well a link to RSVP via email.
You do not need to attend the School of Engineering Orientation, although you can if you’d like. The relevant information will also be shared at the MSEM program orientation on August 18th.
Class Schedule and Registration
The On-Campus MSEM program consists of integrated courses and does NOT follow the standard Tufts Academic Calendar. View the MSEM class dates for the Academic Year 2020-2021 here.
The linked calendar above is organized by cohort. Each cohort consists of a mix of students in the 2-Year and 3-Year programs. For academic year 2020-2021, all core courses are held at 200 Boston Avenue Suite 2400, Medford, MA 02155.
Beginning in early August, you will be able to register for courses in the Student Information portal (SIS). You will receive an email with instructions on what to register for and how to register for classes later this summer. Please review the On-Campus curriculum for information regarding the curriculum and course listings.
Evening Format: Class Schedule
- For students enrolling in the fall 2020, evening classes are held from 6pm - 9pm on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the duration of the core courses. Electives are offered on various nights. Meals are available prior to your scheduled classes from 5pm - 6pm. Meals are offered free of charge and are not required, but offer students the opportunity to connect with classmates and decompress before starting classes.
Weekend Format: Class Schedule
- Weekend classes are held on alternating weekends (both Friday and Saturday) from 9am - 4pm with a break for lunch from 12pm - 1pm. Lunch will be provided.
If you need to change your selected format (evening or weekend) or length (2-year or 3-year), please contact Rebekah Plotkin as soon as possible.
Billing and Payment of Tuition
The On-Campus MSEM program is billed at a standard rate per semester. The semester rate covers the cost of all courses, projects, and materials undertaken that semester. Students in the 2-year program are billed in 4 even installments over the first 4 semesters. Students in the 3-year program are billed over 5-6 semesters, depending on the option they select for completing year 3 (which is selected during year 2). Tuition is due at the start of the academic semester. Visit the tuition page for a breakdown of program cost per academic year.
Fall semester bills are issued in July and due in August. Tufts Bursar’s Office will send official E-Bill along with instructions on how to pay in July.
MSEM students have the option to pay their bill using bank transfer, wire, a monthly installment plan, or student loans. More information on the payment plan and how to submit a payment can be found here.
Please note that the monthly payment plan allows students to spread their annual educational expenses over ten months. One semester’s costs would be paid over five months. Payments begin on May 15 for the fall semester and October 15 for the spring semester, so it is important to enroll early. Enroll online.
Many students are eligible to have their tuition covered by their company tuition reimbursement programs. We encourage students to reach out to their Human Resources department and manager to understand the process and available benefit. Students should inquire if there is an available benefit, what the requirements are, and the deadlines for submitting paperwork. Knowing deadlines is especially important for the fall semester, as sometimes the internal company deadline is prior classes ending.
If you are eligible for reimbursement, you can request to defer your tuition as needed. Tuition would be due 30 days after grades are issued at the end of the semester. Students need to submit a copy of their company reimbursement policy in order to show eligibility.
Please keep in mind that although you are signing the Employer Deferred Payment Agreement, you are ultimately responsible for paying your tuition, not your employer. It is very important that you speak to your HR representatives about your tuition reimbursement benefits, and make sure that you are eligible before you sign the agreement.
Please file the form as soon as possible with Rebekah Plotkin. A copy of the form can be found on the MSEM Student Information Canvas Portal, which you can access after creating your Tufts email.
Students are subject to all Tufts University, School of Engineering and Tufts Gordon Institute policies. You should familiarize yourself with the graduate student handbook and the MSEM Program Handbook. A copy of the handbook is posted on the MSEM Student Information Canvas Portal prior to orientation.
All Tufts students are required by law to have an active health insurance plan. If you are an international or domestic student and are not covered by a U.S. health plan, you will need to purchase health insurance either through Tufts or privately. To purchase insurance, please notify Rebekah Plotkin and determine and file appropriate forms with Health Services (617-627-5176).
