Fifth Year Master's Degree Program

Continue your education at Tufts University and earn your MS degree in only one additional year!

The School of Engineering offers Tufts undergraduate students the option to simultaneously earn credits towards their Master's degree while completing their Bachelor's degree through the Tufts Fifth-Year Master's Program. By double-counting course credits in this way, you can save on tuition expenses toward your Master's degree, as you will need to complete fewer courses total. The total number of credits and courses required will vary depending on your chosen Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

Apply if you want to:

  • save an average of 20% on your Master's degree tuition
  • reduce your course load in later semesters
  • speed up the time it takes you to get real world working experience
  • have the opportunity to experience graduate level courses while still an undergraduate student

If you're interested in pursuing the Tufts Fifth-Year Master's Program, you can connect with Tufts Gordon Institute during your junior year at Tufts and we will help you plan your course progression and get you on the pathway to taking graduate-level courses!

Considering pursuing the Dual Degree Master's Program along with the Fifth-Year Master's Program? Note that courses may not be counted more than two times across certificates or degree programs, and Fifth-Year students pursuing two MS degrees will need to complete a minimum of 16 additional courses beyond their BS program. Please refer to the School of Engineering Graduate Student Handbook for more information.

The Tufts Fifth-Year Master's Program really allowed me to identify what I'm good at, what worked in undergrad, and go into my master's in a very seamless transition. I feel extremely prepared for my professional career in a way that the four years of undergrad didn't quite give me.
