Develop your innovation, leadership and management skills and build your technical depth with our Dual Degree master's program. You’ll earn two degrees - an MS Innovation & Management (MSIM) and an MS offered by one of the six academic departments within the School of Engineering. And, you earn both degrees in an accelerated timeframe and at a reduced cost.

Tufts School of Engineering offers a wide range of MS programs from its six different academic departments that qualify for the Dual Degree master’s program. Choose from the following School of Engineering programs:

Dual Degree Program Advantages:

Fast time to completion: You earn two master’s degrees in just two years.

Discounted tuition: You receive a guaranteed $10,000 per semester tuition discount in fall and spring semesters of your second year of study, giving you a $20,000 total reduction in the tuition cost for both degrees.

Reduced course load: You can double count four courses toward both degrees, thereby reducing the total number of courses required to complete the dual degree program from 20 to 16.

Streamlined admissions: Select the dual degree program option on our online application and the application process is simplified. You only need to apply once, and both admissions teams will review your application materials. This means you only submit your college transcripts, resume and standardized test scores once... And, best of all, you only pay one application fee.

Engineers often start at a technical role, but then it's like, 'Where would I go from there?' I was always torn between wanting to follow a deeply technical route versus going into management or leadership. I hoped that the experiences from one degree would inform the other, creating new perspectives. This is definitely true in countless ways! For instance, the skills I learned doing technical research could inform my business decisions on a venture with high-tech solutions. 

The Dual Degree Curriculum:

Academic Year 1

Get ready to run… with your ideas. Kick-off your experience in the fall semester, fully immersed in the MSIM program. Work with a team to develop a meaningful new product or service idea. Let your passion drive your work. In the spring semester, dive deeper into the innovation process and continue your MSIM courses and seminars. You will also begin your MS in Engineering program by completing 2 courses in your field of study.

The most real-world experience yet. Choose from a variety of hands-on industry experiences to build your resume and apply your learned skills, all within the Capstone Innovation & Leadership Project. 

EM 281 - Capstone Innovation & Leadership Project

Project Options include:

  • Intern/Job: Take on an internship or a permanent role anywhere across the globe. 
  • Entrepreneur: Continue developing your Innovation Sprint venture. 

Academic Year 2 - Fall & Spring Semesters

Build your technical expertise. Engage deeply in your technical discipline by completing the courses required for your MS in Engineering degree. Double-counting 4 courses means most students will complete 6 additional courses across Academic Year 2. The total number of courses required may vary depending on the requirements of your MS program and the number of MS in Engineering courses completed in Academic Year 1.
