Take a glimpse at the exciting Tufts Venture Accelerator kickoff week with details and photos!
The Tufts Venture Accelerator has officially launched its 10-week program, kicking off a rigorous season of collaboration and strategic growth. This year, the program brings together six venture teams made up of a diverse cohort of students from many different majors and backgrounds. The ventures also showcase diversity with focuses in matcha and retail, a financial prediction engine, AI powered professional networking, a strategic board game, a device to reduce pain with IUD insertion, and a Chinese herbal medicine platform.
Every year, the Tufts Venture Accelerator (TVA) begins with a week full of excitement - from ice breaker activities, to workshops and panels, and more! Read on for a highlight from the 2026 Kickoff Week:
Day one began with introductions and cohort bonding activities!
The Tufts Venture Accelerator teams were welcomed by Elaine Chen, Cummings Family Professor of the Practice in Entrepreneurship and Director of the Derby Entrepreneurship Center, Carol Denning, Associate Director of the Derby Entrepreneurship Center, and the Entrepreneur in Residence team – Luke Fraser, Marcus Johnson-Smith, and Idicula Mathew. Kevin Oye, Executive Director of Tufts Gordon Institute offered opening remarks that inspired the teams and encouraged them to find their why.
The day concluded with a socialization mixer at Elmstreet Taproom which united the current Accelerator cohort with TVA alumni and Boston industry leaders for an evening of high-value networking and connection.
Energy levels surged on day two, driven by EIR Luke’s team-building exercises that effectively balanced engagement with vital leadership lessons. The room was buzzing with excitement, laughter, and eagerness to get to work once the exercises were finished.
Afterwards, the focus shifted to operational strategy and the intricacies of navigating board discussions. This provided essential preparation for the program’s upcoming mock board simulations which are designed to test founders under real-world business stress.
The second day’s programming was perfectly anchored by the TVA Alumni Panel, where former participants shared candid, post-accelerator realities and provided a pragmatic blueprint for scaling a business.
After the formal panel discussion, our TVA alums sat down with the current cohort for a more casual opportunity to ask questions and hear about their different journeys.
The next day, students were treated to delicious drinks when the Naru Matcha team put together a Matcha event for everyone to taste their beverages!
The week culminated in an intensive Expert Deep Dive on Marketing led by Jack Derby, Tufts Professor and CEO of Derby Management. With all of the participating ventures positioning for market launch, this session proved invaluable. Jack highlighted common entrepreneurial pitfalls and challenged the founders to restructure their sales strategies to efficiently secure market traction and close deals.
As this story goes to show, week one of the Tufts Venture Accelerated delivered engaging and invaluable experiences that laid a groundwork for the rest of the summer. With a foundation clearly set, our six venture teams are ready to accelerate!
