MSIM Graduates Combat Impending Global Water Shortage

On the way to change the way the world thinks about water management
Alex Rappaport, MSIM 18, poses at Greentown Labs

ZwitterCo, an innovative and high-tech way to reduce and reuse wastewater, may have been developed as an Innovation Sprint during the M.S. in Innovation & Management program, but is now on the way to change the way the world thinks about water management. Co-Founders, Alex Rappaport (E17, MSIM18) and Aditi Deorukhakar (MSIM18), were originally brought together during the one-year, fast-pasted master's degree program.

Together, they have tapped into revolutionary research on zwitterions conducted by Tufts chemical and biological engineering assistant professor Ayse Asatekin. Now working as a real-world startup within Greentown Labs, the tech incubator in Somerville, ZwitterCo is developing a paid pilot project with a high-powered food and beverage company.

"We have five Tufts degrees on our team, Tufts technology, Tufts investors, Tufts advisors, and all of our network and learning on how to do this came from Tufts," Rappaport said. "We are a true Tufts company."
