Tufts Gordon Institute welcomes new MSIM and MSEM students

Tufts Gordon Institute welcomed the newest members of the M.S. in Engineering Management and M.S. in Innovation and Management programs this month.

The 33 new MSIM students represent the largest cohort in the program’s 3-year history. For the first time, students come from countries including Lebanon, Kenya, Kazakhstan, and Greece. Women represent 45% of the cohort, and students come with a background of over 21 different undergraduate and graduate majors.

“What a blast it has been to see our MSIM program continue to expand and grow, thanks to the very strong success of our graduates from our first two classes,” says MSIM director Kevin Oye. “This year’s diverse cohort all share a desire to solve problems in the world that matter – whether that’s fighting poverty in Africa, using medical innovations to solve the opioid crisis, or figuring out how to build sustainable cities. We’re fortunate they chose Tufts and our MSIM program to accelerate their path to becoming transformative leaders, with heart. I look forward to seeing their innovations as they lay the foundation to do incredible things.”

This year’s 62 new MSEM students also come from diverse backgrounds and represent 42 different companies in the Boston area. The top industries represented include defense (24%), pharma/life sciences (24%), and medical devices (14%).

Students are currently employed at defense companies like Raytheon and Draper, life science companies like Bluebird Bio, Shire, and Takeda, and medical device companies like Medtronic and Boston Scientific. Other organizations represented include the MIT AgeLab, nanotechnology company TelAztec, TripAdvisor, and National Grid.
