Tufts Gordon Institute kicked off a new school year in September, welcoming the newest members of the two-year M.S. in Engineering Management (MSEM) and one-year M.S. in Innovation and Management (MSIM) programs.
Enrollment in the MSIM program grew by more than 70 percent with a total of 24 students joining the class of 2018. “I’m very excited to welcome the new MSIM class to Tufts,” said Kevin Oye, Director of the program. They come with a wide range of backgrounds, but all share something in common – a special spark and a desire to make an impact on this world. All see the year with the program as an opportunity to expand their innovation mindset and skill sets, to accelerate their ability to innovate, to see problems and to drive positive impact. I look forward to the year with them, and their lives beyond Tufts.”
The students have experience in a broad spectrum of areas, including cybersecurity, GPS navigation, medical animal labs, business and IT consulting, and orthopedic medical device trials,”
The 68 new MSEM students come from a diverse range of industries and educational backgrounds. Top industries represented include biopharma/medical devices (26%), defense/aerospace (26%), and computer software (9%).
Students include a product engineer at Little Sparrows Technologies, a startup company developing a portable phototherapy device to treat infant jaundice; an engineer at DataXu, a software company focused on data analytics for marketing; and the leader of Environmental, Health & Safety at GE Healthcare who also is the vice president of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Boston chapter.
Returning 2nd year students provided advice and “words of wisdom” during orientation events on August 22. “Take advantage of your classmates – there is so much diversity in your classroom,” Youssef Bargach, MSEM ’18, told new students.
