Biography

Josep brings to Tufts deep industry leadership in artificial intelligence and machine learning within global capital markets infrastructure. Throughout his career, he has pioneered production-scale AI deployments, most notably leading the research and development of the world’s first SEC-approved AI-powered order type utilizing deep reinforcement learning. 
   
   At Tufts, Josep teaches Data & Machine Learning for Financial Markets, focusing on the practical application of cutting-edge modeling techniques to market microstructure and quantitative finance. He also serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the Center for Leadership Education at Johns Hopkins University, helping guide curriculum to meet modern fintech demands. 
   
   Professionally, Josep is the Global Head of AI Research and Director of Data Science at Nasdaq, where he steers enterprise AI strategy and leads global data science teams building low-latency trading infrastructure, predictive analytics, and index algorithms. 
   
   He holds several patents across distributed predictive modeling, real-time transaction processing, and semantic analysis. Josep earned dual degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Johns Hopkins University.
