Celebrating Pi Day at Tufts Gordon Institute
We challenged Tufts University students to memorize as many digits of pi as possible, alongside real pie to celebrate Pi Day.
On March 14th, we celebrated everyone's favorite irrational number for Pi Day with a little math and a lot of pie! We challenged Tufts students to recite as many digits of pi as they could memorize. Every participant received a slice of pi and whoever memorized the most digits by the end of the day earned a Tufts Gordon Institute Swag Bag!
Throughout the day, Tufts students made their way to the Tufts Gordon Institute office to try their hand at reciting as many digits of pi as possible. Of course, everyone got a slice of pie, even if they could only remember 3.14, but we were out to find one person who could recite the most - would it be over 20 digits? 50? Maybe over 100? By the end of the day, we would find out!
Enjoy the photos below and find out who our winner was at the end!
Tufts Gordon Institute's Program Administrator, Teresa, and Marketing & Communications Specialist, Morgan, took on the fun task of picking up pies for the event the morning of Pi Day.
We offered students a variety of pies to choose from:
Apple
Chocolate Cream (a fan favorite!)
Blueberry
Strawberry Rhubarb
We had undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff from across multiple programs join us for pie and a chance to recite the most digits of pi to win a TGI Swag Bag. Everyone enjoyed a slice of pie!
At the end of the day, our winner was an undergraduate student named Luke who recited 147 digits of pi! Congratulations to Luke and everyone else who participated in our Pi Day Challenge! We hope you all enjoyed your pie and are looking forward to doing this again next year! Discover more opportunities to engage with the Tufts Gordon Institute community on our Events page!
