Mark Ranalli joins Tufts Gordon Institute as associate dean and executive director.

Ranalli founded several innovative businesses including Helium, Inc., a site that applies a crowdsourcing filtering system to user-generated content. Prior to his arrival at Tufts, Ranalli was managing director at the Andover-based RR Donnelly Digital Solutions Group (which acquired Helium in 2011) where he oversaw the company’s digital business strategy.

In addition to his experience in building successful content- and communications-based businesses, Mark has experience in investing, advising start-ups, and reforming business culture. He currently serves as Vice Chairman for the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan, independent nonprofit research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy. He also has served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Tuck School at Dartmouth.

A graduate of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University and Stanford University, Ranalli succeeds Robert J. Hannemann who previously was the director since 2007.

“With over 24 years of experience as a business executive and entrepreneur, Mark will be a wonderful leader for our engineering management and entrepreneurship programs, and I am confident that he will advance TGI’s mission of educating students and professionals in innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership, “says Dean Linda Abriola of Tufts School of Engineering.

Ranalli will have a secondary appointment as a professor of the practice in Tufts School of Engineering.
