Robert J. Hannemann is stepping down as director of the Tufts Gordon Institute at the end of the 2013-14 academic year after seven years of dedicated service.
Rob joined the School of Engineering as director of Tufts Gordon Institute (TGI) in September 2007, with a secondary appointment as a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In his time at Tufts, Rob has accomplished a great deal to grow and strengthen TGI.
Under his leadership, enrollment in TGI’s flagship M.S. in Engineering Management (MSEM) program has more than doubled, with an average of 125 matriculated students enrolled each year. Rob expanded the influence of industry leaders in all of TGI’s academic programs, establishing its first Industrial Advisory Council and building a core faculty of Professors of the Practice.
In support of undergraduate education, Rob chaired a subcommittee of the Curriculum Task Force that developed a revised leadership-focused engineering management minor, which is increasingly recognized as a valuable educational opportunity for students in the School of Engineering. He also continued to nurture the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, which has grown from a handful of courses to a thriving academic minor with more than 500 students and a widely recognized 100K business plan competition. Most recently, Rob led the TGI team in the development of a 5-year strategic framework that will ensure that the high quality, high impact educational programs that TGI offers will continue to progress and improve.
A search committee including faculty, staff, alumni and students has been established to identify the next Tufts Gordon Institute director. The committee anticipates the position to be filled by summer 2014.
