Sunjay Kapur and Vivek Singh of Sona Comstar Share Their Journey to a Successful IPO

As part of its Entrepreneurial Speaker Series, the Derby Entrepreneurship Center at Tufts recently hosted Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar and Vivek Singh, Managing Director and Group CEO, for a talk on how Sona Comstar has achieved sustained growth through innovative strategic decision-making.

Sona Comstar is a global automotive systems & components manufacturer with 9 plants spread across India, China, Mexico, and the USA. The company delivers hardware and software automotive solutions in green automation. It is a leading supplier of critical systems and components to manufacturers of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and tractors.

Kapur and Singh recounted the company’s journey as it grew its revenue by 8.9x and EBITDA by over 10x in the past 9 years. They shared with Tufts University students the mindsets and practices that helped Sona Comstar achieve this level of growth.

Speaking to one of the principle mindsets that drove Sona Comstar's strategy, Singh explained, "Revenue is vanity, profit is sanity and cash is reality."

After the talk, Tufts students had the opportunity to ask Kapur and Singh questions about entrepreneurship, business, and lessons the pair learned throughout their journey with Sona Comstar.

“As an aspiring entrepreneur, the opportunity to not only hear the journey of someone who has succeeded in business, but also speak with and ask them questions directly is invaluable,” shared Akshita Jain, an MS in Innovation & Management student at Tufts University.
