Tufts Gordon Institute launches new Professional Education Program

Designed by seasoned tech leaders for emerging tech leaders

Professional Education develops technology leaders with a strategic management education

Compared with many areas of the U.S. economy, the tech sector is in overdrive. Technology jobs dominate U.S. News & World Report’s top 10 list of the 100 Best Jobs of 2013, and Forbes reports the tech sector is at the center of job growth in metropolitan areas with flourishing economies.

To help tech professionals capitalize on fast-moving opportunities in the technology world, Tufts University’s Gordon Institute is launching a Professional Education Program. The program is designed to give technology industry professionals the skills, knowledge, confidence, and credentials to advance in a highly competitive marketplace. The individual graduate-level courses offered under the Professional Education umbrella address the realities of the 21st-century innovation economy, like Business Analytics for Strategic Management of High Technology Firms, Leadership for Technical Professionals, and Financial Management in High Technology Firms.

What sets the Tufts Gordon Institute Professional Education program apart is its finely calibrated blend of rigor and relevance, convenience and flexibility. Designed in collaboration with management and industry leaders, professional education gives engineering and technology professionals the means to fit critical learning experiences into their over-scheduled lives. When a company is about to launch a new product, the knowledge an employee gains through courses like Leadership for Technical Professionals and Financial Management in High Technology Firms can make the difference between success and failure—of the individuals’ performance and of the product launch itself.

Professional education courses are taught by the influential professors that distinguish Tufts’ Gordon Institute, and credit for up to two professional education courses may be applied toward the Tufts M.S. in Engineering Management (MSEM), if the student later opts to enter the degree program.

An extensive array of benefits

Tufts Gordon Institute Professional Education courses equip engineers, technologists, and scientists for the challenges they will encounter in the global technology marketplace. Students enrolled in professional education courses will have the opportunity to

  • build job-oriented knowledge and skills designed for professionals in technology settings
  • study with faculty and industry peers who have faced—and solved—the same challenges
  • prepare for or qualify for positions that require a higher level of management expertise
  • enroll in a flexible program that takes into account the demands of their non-professional life
  • maximize tuition reimbursement benefits and further their education economically
  • tap the influential Tufts alumni network
  • get started on their graduate studies before the next M.S. in Engineering Management program begins in the fall

Applications are being accepted now for the first three courses in the Tufts Gordon Institute Professional Education repertoire; classes begin in January 2014. Additional professional education courses will be offered during the fall semester.
