Tufts Gordon Institute Welcomes Two New Industry Advisory Members

The group includes members from a variety of organizations and industries from defense and biopharma to energy and environmental engineering.

Tufts Gordon Institute recently welcomed two new members to its Industry Advisory Council. The group includes members from a variety of organizations and industries from defense and biopharma to energy and environmental engineering.

All members of the council met for the spring meeting on April 30 to discuss Tufts Gordon Institute’s strategy for the evolution of the M.S. in Engineering Management program.

The newest members of Tufts Gordon Institute’s Industry Advisory Council are:

Robert Treiber, E86, EG90, President, Boston Engineering

Mark Totman
Mark Totman is president of Bio-Detek, Inc., a Pawtucket, RI based medical device design and manufacturing company. After seven start-ups and years of management consulting to more than 25 technology companies, he is enjoying focusing his energy on innovative design and solving medical needs. Bio-Detek, as part of ZOLL Medical Corporation, has followed a strategy of taking commodity products and defining ways to add technology for added value and market differentiation. He pushes the concept that the role of engineering must be expanded from simply solving problems to understanding customer and market needs so that superior products can be delivered. Earlier ventures included construction management, liquid chromatography, management consulting, data communications, process control, financial software, brain monitoring and two defibrillator businesses. Current projects include the placement of resuscitation technology into smart phones and the use of externally applied energy to treat various circulatory ailments. Mr. Totman received an MBA from Stanford University, a BE from the Thayer School of Engineering and a BA from Dartmouth College.

Robert Treiber, E86, EG90
Bob Treiber has been president of Boston Engineering since co-founding the company in 1995. Bob maintains an active role in the technical aspects of all electrical engineering and control engineering projects at the company. Bob’s leadership and visionary-thinking helps ensure that a systems approach to engineering underlies all development projects and moves the company forward. His vast experience in embedded controls and product development spans microcontroller and DSP circuit design to industrial embedded computer system design. He has designed, developed and managed successful circuit design projects, custom robotic projects and entire electro-mechanical automated machinery development projects for clients and multi-national corporations. His past professional experience includes working for Herbst LaZar Bell, MPM Corporation, Foster-Miller, Inc, and Raytheon Company. Bob holds Bachelor and Master degrees in electrical engineering from Tufts University and an MBA from Babson College.
